Workplace lighting: Six standout projects that shine

Home Insights Workplace lighting: Six standout projects that shine

From soft ambient glows to sculptural fixtures that make a statement, the right lighting can completely transform how a space is experienced. In this insight, we spotlight six workplace projects where lighting isn’t an afterthought - it’s a central feature of the design story.

1. Kao, London

The lighting throughout Kao's office space reflects a thoughtful balance of tradition and modernity, with a subtle nod to the company's Japanese roots.

Sculptural, ribbed pendant lights resemble the soft glow of traditional washi lanterns, creating an ambiance that aligns with Japanese design principles of harmony and simplicity. In contrast, contemporary black pendants with exposed wiring introduce an industrial edge, adding a sense of creativity and movement to the space.

Integrated lighting within shelving and ceilings further enhances functionality while maintaining a natural, understated aesthetic. This layered approach to lighting not only defines different work zones but also reinforces a design philosophy that blends heritage with innovation.

Greystar’s office lighting scheme blends striking statement pieces with subtle fixtures, creating a layered and atmospheric workspace.

Above the staircase, a bespoke crystal chandelier cascades through the space, enhancing the architectural form of the staircase. In communal areas, soft globe lights and warm table lamps create an inviting, residential feel while maintaining a professional elegance. Across seating areas, breakout zones and working floors, high end materials and finishes enhance the overall aesthetic, a great way to blend comfort and sophistication.

Even with floor to ceiling windows flooding the space with natural light, the lighting at Trinity Life Sciences' office is thoughtfully designed to create a space that feels both stylish and functional.

Felted, faceted pendants add a tactile softness and visual interest to the bright, open spaces. In collaborative areas, globe pendant lights are paired with acoustic ceiling rafts to create a sense of intimacy while supporting sound absorption. Meanwhile, clusters of simple white pendants in social spaces maintain a clean, contemporary feel.

This considered approach to lighting subtly defines different working zones, supports wellbeing and contributes to a cohesive, welcoming environment.

The lighting design at CR International’s office supports both functionality and wellbeing across different working zones. Natural light is maximised through full height glazing and adjustable blinds, reducing reliance on artificial lighting during the day. In meeting and collaboration areas, integrated acoustic ceiling panels with built in lighting help control sound while providing effective illumination.
